Summer is in full swing, meaning it’s time to break out your swimsuits. Not feeling 100 percent confident in your swimwear? Well, you should feel confident. Don’t let your nerves get the best of you and make you feel like you’re any less beautiful than what you are.

It’s common and easy for most people, especially women, to feel nervous being in front of strangers, showing more skin than usual. However, you shouldn’t let that stop you from wearing what you like or stopping you from enjoying a day out at the pool or beach.

No matter what shape or size you are, know that you are not alone in feeling self-conscious about your body. Also, realize that if you don’t visit the beach or pool as often you are more likely to feel uncomfortable, but I assure you the less you worry about how you look and focus more on having fun, the feeling will pass.

Some things that may help you feel confident in your swimwear are to realize that almost everybody feels nervous and although you may think that you look your absolute worst, you need to reassure yourself that you don’t!

Shopping for a swimsuit that makes you feel like a million bucks, can also really help. Find an outfit that compliments your body. So when you feel as if all eyes are on you, you’ll know it’s because you look beyond gorgeous.

Bringing a trusted friend who will be completely honest with you, but also not discourage you from trying another swimsuit in your lifetime can also be helpful. If your friends are busy or if you don’t really have a pick at trusted friends to rely on then I recommend taking some cute pictures of yourself in the swimsuits to see how you look in them.

Then you can always come back to the store and buy it once you’ve decided. Or if the return policy is lenient buy a few swimsuits and try them on in the comfort of your own home. I still recommend taking pictures though because you can compare the swimsuits to see which looks better on you.

If your anxiety is just eating you up and you can’t get over the feeling of not ever being able to look good, then talk about it with someone you trust. Have a conversation with your friends, they might confess to you that they too feel self-conscious about their bodies. Maybe then they can suggest some of the ways they get over their fears.

If it’s too much to talk to a friend or if you just know the issue is more than not having enough confidence then talking to a therapist can really help. During the session, you both can talk about why you feel so nervous being in a swimsuit, uncovering the truth about why you have so many issues with your body or looks.  

You may have convinced yourself that it is not a big deal if you skip on out on spending time with friends or family at the beach or pool, but it is a big deal. You are missing out many joyful memories all because you are letting your anxiety get the best of you.

Most importantly though stop being so critical about your imperfections, we ALL have imperfections! Focus on all your positive qualities and features and own it. Hype yourself up and don’t let your insecurities intervene with you living your life to the fullest.
